The United States Twirling Association (USTA) proudly announces the formation of USA Baton Twirling to serve all U.S. twirlers, coaches, and judges who wish to participate in international competitions sanctioned by the International Baton Twirling Federation (IBTF).
Those competitions include the World Freestyle Championship, held in even-numbered years, and the World Technical Baton Twirling Championship, World Majorettes Championship, and Nations Cup competition, held in odd-numbered years.
Baton twirling athletes and professionals from several U.S. twirling organizations will now join together under USA Baton Twirling to compete internationally.
“For the first time, we stand together as one twirling community, one federation, one team, and one future,” USTA President Karen Cammer said. “The power of USA Baton Twirling is in its unity. Together, we are unstoppable!”
USTA was named the U.S. federation or representative to the IBTF in 2024, after a comprehensive application and evaluation process. The selection of a single national body is an important step toward international recognition of the sport of baton twirling.
USTA and other U.S. twirling organizations will continue to hold their own regional and national competitions, but USA Baton Twirling will hold all competitions to qualify U.S. athletes for IBTF international competitions, which are the twirling equivalent of the Olympic Games.
USTA has developed a new membership structure to provide athletes and professionals with competitive access and resources, regardless of whether they want to participate in USTA competitions, IBTF qualifiers, or both. Get membership information here.
The USA Baton Twirling Technical Committee, a group of twirling professionals from a variety of U.S. twirling organizations, will be responsible for all aspects of U.S. IBTF qualifying competitions, including U.S. IBTF Policies, Procedures, and Rulebook, U.S. Trials and Qualifiers, and the U.S. Tour. Applications for the Technical Committee will be available soon on the USA Baton Twirling website.
