Meet USTA Professional member

Lynn Dell Harrell

Lynn Dell Harrell

Lynn Dell Harrell is a USTA Professional member from Pflugerville, Texas, who has helped many athletes realize their dreams in both competitive and collegiate twirling. Inside Loop recently talked with her about her twirling background, and how she helps athletes achieve the success they seek.

Inside Loop: What is your background in twirling, and how do you help your students find success in our sport?

Harrell: I started twirling when I was three years old. I took from my cousin who was one of the Texas Stars at the University of Texas. I was lucky enough to also twirl at UT when I went to college. My mom and my aunt were also twirlers at their high schools.

My background has helped me prepare my students by explaining to them what helped me be successful. I tell them how many hours a day I practiced and that I did track, gymnastics, and dance to stay in shape to try to twirl better. I feel like that helps me relate to them and show them I also did the work, just like I am asking them to do. I try not to ask them to do anything I wouldn't do and hope that helps them reach their goals too, whatever those may be. Not all of my students want to be national champions - some just want to enjoy the art of twirling!

Inside Loop: How has USTA influenced your role as a Professional?

Harrell: USTA has given me so much; many titles, numerous friends, and the ability to give back to a sport that I love. It has also allowed me to travel to many parts of the world.

Inside Loop: And now for the fun facts. What are three things the twirling world probably doesn't know about you?

Harrell:

  • I enjoy working as a runner for Tabulation at Nationals. That way, I can still help and be able to talk to my students! I encourage others to volunteer at Nationals. It's a great way to put your skills to work, have fun, and support our athletes and judges.
  • I enjoy wake surfing! I also enjoy running. In June while in Alaska, I will have run a race in all 50 States. In addition, I completed a Marathon at Disney in 2017.
  • I also enjoy going to national parks and hiking.

Thanks, Lyndell, for sharing these details about you!
