A new USTA Professional, Gina Zarcone, who is from New York, is excited about transitioning from athlete to judge. Here's what she told Inside Loop about making that move.
Inside Loop: As a new USTA Professional, what do you think will be the most exciting change for you going from athlete to Professional?
Zarcone: Transitioning from athlete to USTA Professional marks a significant and thrilling chapter in my journey within the twirling community. One of the most exciting changes for me is the opportunity to share my knowledge and passion for twirling with others. As a USTA Professional, I can now play a pivotal role in guiding and mentoring aspiring twirlers, imparting not only technical skills, but also the values and dedication that define this sport. The shift allows me to contribute to the growth and development of the twirling community in a new and meaningful way. Moreover, being a USTA Professional opens doors to engaging with a broader network of fellow professionals, fostering collaborations, and collectively elevating the sport to new heights. Embracing this role is not just a transition; it's a chance to give back to the sport that has been an integral part of my life since the age of five.
Inside Loop: Young people always strive to make a difference in the activity they are in. How do you feel YOU can make a difference in our sport?
Zarcone: I am deeply committed to making a positive impact on our sport and inspiring the next generation of twirlers. As a USTA Professional, I believe I can make a difference by serving as a role model and mentor to young individuals who are passionate about twirling. My goal is to instill not only the technical skills required for success but also the values of discipline, perseverance, and most importantly, sportsmanship. Through guidance, I aim to create an inclusive and supportive environment where twirlers can thrive and express themselves. Additionally, I envision contributing to the development of innovative training programs and fostering a sense of community within the twirling world. By actively engaging with younger athletes, sharing my experiences, and promoting a love for the sport, I aspire to leave a lasting and positive imprint on the future of twirling.
Inside Loop: And we always ask this…what are three things the baton world probably doesn't know about you?
Zarcone:
- Opening up a bit, here are three tidbits that the baton world may not know about me! I find joy in cooking, hitting the golf course, and, surprising as it may be, I'm a hardcore Disney adult.
