The United States Twirling Association has always honored and valued baton twirling coaches as the foundation of our sport. USTA has developed programs and resources to support coaches and has now developed a new opportunity to recognize them for excellence: the USTA Coach of the Year Program . This program will honor a coach who has distinguished him or herself through years of successful coaching and who embodies the USTA coaching philosophy.
“We want to recognize coaches who make a positive impact on our sport, their students, their peers and their communities,” said Jackie Stewart, director of the USTA Coaches Department.
The criteria for selection of the USTA Coach of the Year is as follows:
- Coach must be a current USTA member
- Coach must be a USTA certified coach
- Coach should be involved with state and regional baton councils
- Coach should display a strong rapport with athletes
- Coach should be involved in community service
- Coach should exhibit knowledge of twirling through an understanding of the rules and the USTA coaching philosophy
- Coach should have developed excellent relationships with other coaches by being cooperative, considerate and representing USTA in the highest regard
State and regional councils can nominate one coach per year for the Coach of the Year Award. The nomination deadline is June 1, 2022. Each nomination will be reviewed by a member of the USTA Board of Directors, a Technical Department member, a Judges Department member and a member of USTA's Leadership Team. The top three nominees will be reviewed by the USTA Coaches Department, which will make the final selection.
The 2022 Coach of the Year will be announced at the 2022 U.S. National Championships. The honored coach will receive a $250 cash award, be featured on USTA's website and in USTA publications and have the opportunity to share their coaching expertise through the USTA Coaches' Network.
