Getting to know USTA Professional members Patti Wojotowicz and Christina Giddens

“Getting to know you…getting to know all about you.”

USTA asked these Professional members, who are from NJ and LA, respectively, three questions. Here's what they had to say:

What do you think USTA will look like five to 10 years from now?

Patti: USTA’s excellent education program is what first attracted me to the organization. I think our organization’s professional leadership and innovation in this area will continue to move twirling forward. Also, the positive changes in membership requirements will encourage grassroots growth which is so important to our future.

Christina: I see USTA taking steps today to grow our organization into something bigger and better than it is today. I have always felt that the focus of USTA is how to make the athletes of USTA successful. The leaders of our organization are always thinking outside the box and reaching out to what matters most in our organization, the athletes! By including professional members and athletes in decisions that will shape the organization how can we not grow into something bigger and better?

What ignited a fire in you that resulted in your passion for baton twirling?

Patti: I fell in love with twirling at age five when I saw a twirler in a local parade. My mom told me I begged her for lessons and lucky for me she agreed. As a twirler, I loved performing and being part of an activity that allowed me experiences that I would not have had without our sport. As a coach, I am motivated by seeing my students grow and develop their abilities and enjoy providing positive opportunities for them to acquire skills that will last a lifetime. Making great friends and sharing my love of twirling with my daughter Catherine has been an incredible part of my life.

Christina: From the moment I held a baton in my hand I knew that this is something that would be a part of my life forever. Being a part of a team, competing and traveling to places I would have never gotten the chance to go to has shaped me into the person I am today. I am so thankful Vicki LeBrun came into my life as my coach and is still in my life today as my mentor and supporter. I love that I am not only getting to share my passion with my students, but I am sharing my passion and love of this sport with my daughter and my nieces. This is what truly feels my heart with joy.

What are three things the baton world doesn’t know about you?

Patti:
1. I have been an educator for 40 years and currently run a vocational school program for students with disabilities. Helping my students prepare for a successful transition to adult living is incredibly rewarding. 2. I collect vintage twirling memorabilia and love antiquing. 3. My favorite place is the beach.

Christina:
1. I have been married for 6 years to my husband, Shawn and we have one daughter, Maggie Grace.
2. My “real job” outside of twirling is accounting. I have been with my company for 13 years.
3. I started my twirling group, Evolution Twirls, in October of 2016 with my niece, Ashley Roberson and former teammate, Brittany Dukes.
